Is tangerine a real fruit?
The tangerine is a type of citrus fruit that is orange in color. Its scientific name varies. It has been treated as a separate species under the name Citrus tangerina or Citrus × tangerina, or treated as a variety of Citrus reticulata, the mandarin orange.
One tangerine is roughly equal to one serving of fruit.
The orange is known as one of nature's most perfect foods, and the tangerine, which is a hybrid in the mandarin family of oranges, is one of nature's juiciest, most sweet-tasting delicacies. Tangerines were first cultivated in China more than 3,000 years ago and didn't reach Europe or the United States until the 1800s.
The mandarins you see in grocery stores called Cuties and Sweeties are Clementines. They are easier to peel than tangerines, but not as easy to peel as Satsumas. Satsuma Mandarins are a specific type of mandarin orange, originating in Japan more than 700 years ago. They are a lighter orange, sweet, juicy, and seedless.
An orange is a fruit of various citrus species in the family Rutaceae (see list of plants known as orange); it primarily refers to Citrus × sinensis, which is also called sweet orange, to distinguish it from the related Citrus × aurantium, referred to as bitter orange.
There are perhaps only three true species of Citrus: Citrus maxima (pummelo), C. medica (citron), and C. reticulata (mandarin). All other citrus known today are hybrids of these three species, even those that grow true from seed.
Tangerines and tangerine types of citrus fruits are high in both vitamin C and fiber, and have actually been shown to improve blood sugar in people with Type 2 Diabetes. This may be because of the presence of Nobiletin in the fruit, a flavonoid that helps protect against the build-up of plaque in the arteries.
Tangerine is an excellent source of Vitamin C and it has 480% more Vitamin C than apple - tangerine has 26.7mg of Vitamin C per 100 grams and apple has 4.6mg of Vitamin C.
Both tangerines and oranges provide a good variety of nutrients, including potassium, thiamin and folate. Either fruit can be a nutritious, low-calorie addition to your diet. Tangerines contain more vitamin A than oranges, though oranges are lower in calories and higher in vitamin C and fiber.
Risks associated with excessive intake of Mandarin Oranges
Excessive potassium intake will also burden those who have kidney disease because the kidneys are not able to eliminate potassium effectively.
Why are there no tangerines?
“Tangerines” do not exist, scientifically speaking. But popular vernacular trumps science every time, and for nearly two centuries the term “tangerine” – a word derived from the Moroccan port Tangiers, from whence the fruit was first exported to England – has been the default name in common speech.

However, too many can cause health issues. One recommended upper limit is no more than 10-12 clementines in a day. Given that a single serving of fruit is roughly 2 clementines for adults, this would be your entire daily servings of fruits as clementines.
The name "Halos" is owned by Paramount Citrus, who also has the trademark POM Wonderful. Paramount Citrus use to own the "Cuties" name. A split occurred in the company and Sun Pacific parts with the "Cuties" name. "Halos" is the brand name that Paramount choose as a replacement for "Cuties".

Why is pineapple not a citrus?

Tangerines have 8 grams of sugar, 10.1 grams of carbs, and 1.3 grams of fiber per medium fruit. These citrus fruits have less sugar than oranges and are easy to section for fruit salads. Tangerines are also portable, making them good additions to packed lunches and snacks.

What fruit is hard on kidneys?
High potassium fruits such as bananas and avocados aren't ideal for those with kidney disease and diabetes. Instead, choose low potassium fruits such as grapes, berries, and pineapple, and eat them in moderation.

If one starts to eat 4-5 oranges every day, it can lead to overconsumption of fibre. This can cause an upset stomach, cramping, diarrhoea, bloating and nausea. Excessive intake of vitamin C can lead to heartburn, vomiting, insomnia and heart attack, as per reports.
Are there any risks? Oranges are great for you, but you should enjoy them in moderation, Thornton-Wood said. Eating in large quantities "could give you gastrointestinal symptoms if you are sensitive to the high fiber content, so [it's] best to have no more than one a day," she said.

The peel is thinner
The peel on a mandarin is much thinner than a Navel orange. Since the peel is thinner it is easier to peel. It's a lot easier to get your finger into to get the fruit started. Kids can do it themselves, which is a huge plus for parents.
Dogs can eat tangerines and clementines. In fact, dogs can eat all kinds of oranges, including mandarins and Satsuma oranges.
Clementines are the most popular of the mandarin varieties, being adorably small, seedless, sweet, and easy to peel. Tangerines are also a type of mandarin, and clementines are sometimes referred to as tangerines or mandarins.
The more recently popularized Mercott Mandarin orange (branded as “Cuties” or “Halos” in the USA) are mostly seedless. Some newly developed mandarin varieties are truly seedless, while older varieties require netting in the field during bloom to prevent pollination by bees. Lack of pollination makes them seedless.
Despite being sweet, they low in carbohydrates! One of these orange balls of goodness has just 9 grams of carbohydrate if it's a clementine.
